After weeks of preparation, sadly
another Christmas has come and gone.
Anticipation of festive joy was riding high
as a propensity for Christmas magic
kept my hopes and dreams alive.
Now the holidays are over
and the magic has disappeared
packed away in plastic boxes
among shiny baubles and strings of lights.
Hope has become just hope again
and dreams have become just dreams
… until next year
when the magic is unpacked.

The anticlimax to Christmas seems deeper every year as I age, so much so that I tend to want to see the day come and go, so normalcy can return. Lovely words.
