We love climbing cathedrals! Whenever we travel, my husband researches all of the available churches and cathedrals. Beautiful shots. Thanks for joining the challenge!

In some ways old cathedrals like this one seem like fortresses. I love the abundance of trees, like a forest, surrounding this cathedral

…and the older the cathedral, the more like a fortress it seems. This one is a beauty!

Winchester is my favourite of all cathedrals. Actually Winchester is one of my favourite places on earth … a place I used to go that never failed to clear my head, somehow. Your photos are absolutely stunning. And an eagles perch is always the best of vantage points, no?

Thanks much! I love Winchester, too. It has a rather back-to-basics charm to it, I think. A comforting atmospher in both the town and the cathedral. Yes to the eagles perch!

on 9th October, 2012, in my archives on my site, I published a poem about going on the Winchester Cathedral Roof tour. It had won a prize in apoetry comp. You might enjoy it…..

I certainly DID enjoy it! It brought back memories of climbing those steep stone stairs! A beautiful poem – and a nice tribute to your friend.
