My husband and I recently returned from a road trip to visit family we don’t often see. It’s usually a quick trip there and back, but with no pressing demands on our time, we were in no hurry to get back home. We turned the trip into an opportunity to appreciate the simple beauty of rural America. This is one of my favorite photos from the many stops we made along the way. There is an abundance of textures here – perfect for Cee’s challenge this week.

Situated on the Piazza di Santa Croce in Florence, Italy is the beautiful Franciscan church of Santa Croce. Construction of the church began in the late 14th century. The rectangles and squares of inlaid colored marble were added to the facade in the 1800’s. The open and spacious interior is home to exceptional frescoes and other artistic treasures, but it’s mostly famous for being the burial place of Michelangelo and Galileo.

Silhouettes in photography are achieved by having more light coming from the background than the foreground. It’s best to keep the silhouette shapes simple and recognizable. It is a great way to portray a distinctive setting, a certain amount of drama or a touch of mystery!

These are the rooftops of Cesky Krumlov, a captivating little medieval village in the Czech Republic. You enter through the arches of an ancient city wall to discover a maze of cobblestone streets, a meandering river, and one of the finest castle complexes in the world. The castle is uniquely surrounded by a moat filled with bears instead of water! Cesky Krumlov is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is easily loved by all who visit.
