Faces of Heroes

collage

Well, it’s the day after Veteran’s Day, and I’m happy to report the project I spent so much time on was well received! The residents of the retirement community where I volunteer were extremely appreciative of the Veteran’s slide show presentation and the newly re-formatted photo albums.

During a ceremony held for the veterans, comments such as “I didn’t know he was a veteran”, “She hasn’t changed a bit”, and “Look how young he was”, could be heard all around the room as the slide show played and flags were waved on their behalf.

I found the entire experience of revising, digitizing, and adding information to existing documentation a rewarding challenge. As I scanned and edited photos – trying to make each face sharper, cleaner, brighter – I felt a personal connection to who they were and what they might have seen and done in the line of duty. “Thank you for your service” seems inadequate. I came to realize these ordinary, noble and humble men and women are the very meaning of patriotism. They, along with the veterans in my own family, are my heroes and I applaud them.

This is a follow-up to my post “Nearly Finished!!” and also a response to today’s Ragtag Daily Prompt “Face”. Remember, a post with multiple photos is best viewed from my blog as opposed to email.

  1. I like all of the pride-filled smiles. The lower right photo in the first set somehow reminds me of Harry Bailey in the final scene of “It’s A Wonderful Life”.

  2. I wish I had been there when it was all revealed! Great work with great results. All those young faces – how much we owe them.
